‘Tis the season for holiday baking. To make sure your pets don’t miss out on the yummy fun, our clinical nutrition department crafted two healthy and tasty dog-friendly recipes. They look so good, you may be tempted to taste one too! Holiday baking for pets was never so fun! "Bone" appétit!
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup water
1/4 cup honey
2 cups oats, dry
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
These treats should be refrigerated and fed within 3-5 days. Excess treats can be frozen.
Yields seventy-two 1” square treats. Each batch contains 1,500 calories or 20.8 calories per treat.
These treats contain 11% protein calories (low protein), 8% fat calories (low fat), 81% carbohydrate calories. Treat calories should not total more than 10% of any dog’s total daily calorie intake.
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
1/2 cup finely chopped zucchini
1/3 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup water
2 cups all purpose flour or tapioca flour
2 tablespoons of olive oil (okay to use flax seed oil)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
These treats may be kept in an air-tight container for up to 4 weeks.
There are 1,290 calories in one batch of dog treats. The final calorie content of each treat will depend on the total number of treats made.
These treats contain 9% protein calories (low protein), 22% fat calories (low fat), and 69% carbohydrate calories. Treat calories should not total more than 10% of any dog’s total daily calorie intake.
