Internal Medicine

The specialists in the Red Bank Veterinary Hospital’ Internal Medicine Department are trained to diagnose and treat disorders affecting all systems of the body: gastrointestinal, urinary, hematologic, hepatic, endocrine, and respiratory systems. Our internal medicine veterinarians often evaluate the most complex cases, those most difficult to diagnose and therapeutically manage. This extensive experience, combined with a high level of skill, allows us to offer pets the ultimate in quality veterinary medicine.

Diagnostic Tests & Procedures Available to Our Patients Include:

  • Bone marrow evaluations

  • Critical care management

  • CT scan, digital radiography

  • Endoscopy and feeding tube placement: bladder, airways, GI tract

  • Transfusion medicine

  • Ultrasonography with biopsies

Common Diseases Treated:

  • Endocrine - Diabetes, thyroid, and Cushing’s disease

  • Gastrointestinal - Inflammatory bowel disease and pancreatitis

  • Infectious - Leptospirosis, tick-borne diseases (Lyme), viral (FIV), and fungal (aspergillosis)

  • Kidney and urinary tract - UTI & FLUTD

  • Respiratory - Asthma and pneumonia

  • Hematology - Immune-mediated diseases, anemia, and platelet disorders

Due to the complexity of cases seen by this department, our internists spend a great deal of time educating our pet owners about diagnostic and treatment options. This process has several benefits: it allows pet owners to select treatments in the best interest of themselves and their pets; it fosters a commitment to treatment recommendations through a supportive environment; and it enables pets to enjoy a higher quality of life.
