Animal Chiropractic, much like the human equivalent, is focused on the idea that the body has a unique ability to heal itself. The brain and spinal cord control every aspect of the body - from breathing, to fighting infections, to walking and running. When the bones, muscles, tendon, and ligaments that surround the spinal cord do not operate normally, the spinal cord and brain function is diminished. Using chiropractic adjustments to the bones and supportive tissues around the spinal column, allows for optimized motion as well as spinal cord health. If the spinal cord is healthy, so is the rest of the body.
The spinal column may need adjustments due to many things including:
- Old age
- Previous injuries
- Activities of daily living (most common)
While chiropractic can be used at any life stage, it is best used as a preventative measure as activities of daily life add up over the years cause chronic illnesses and injury.
Animal Chiropractic Technique
Hand adjustments are the type of technique used to correct areas in the body that do not move normally in relation to their surrounding structures. Hand adjustments are quick, very specific thrusts directed into a joint restoring normal range of motion. Most hand adjustments performed on cats and dogs are very minute and typically are not even seen by on-lookers. Most dogs and cats are very amenable to chiropractic adjustments and become very fond of their chiropractic visits!
